The Wisconsin basketball staff has landed an international signee in their 2024 recruiting class this afternoon.
Badgers Head Coach Greg Gard announced this afternoon that Serbian big-man Andrija Vukovic will be playing for Wisconsin in the fall. Vukovic, a former professional basketball player in Serbia, will travel to Madison and enter this upcoming season as a collegiate freshman. The center will offer plenty of experience and basketball knowledge right out of the gate for the team.
Wisconsin Basketball Adds International Signee Andrija Vukovic to 2024-2025 Roster
Early this afternoon, Greg Gard took some time to speak to the media to announce the signing of former Serbian professional basketball player Andrija Vukovic. Vukovic, who most recently played in the Basketball League of Serbia, has a lengthy junior career. Vukovic played one season at the highest level of professional basketball in his country last season and averaged 6.1 points in 13 minutes of play each game.
Two seasons ago during his final year of U-19 play, Vukovic averaged 17 points, 7.5 rebounds, and three assists per game in 26.5 minutes of play. Coming in at 6-feet-11-inches, Vukovic will add both size and experience to the Wisconsin basketball program next season.
Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Could Have a Dominant Force on Their Hands
After the conclusion of last season, Gard stated that the staff was out on a mission to ‘…find an impact big man’ for the program. It comes as no surprise for Badgers fans and analysts since the Wisconsin basketball team struggled against dominant big men a season ago. The Badgers have been searching for more production out of their center position, which Vukovic could add right away.
Vukovic has an exceptional combination of size and experience that could allow him to have a leg up on the competition next season. The center shot 65% from the floor during his final year in the juniors, along with an impressive long-range shot. Gard has been looking for a big man who can provide strength down low when need, but also has the ability to shoot, which fits Vukovic perfectly.
What Role will Vukovic Have with the Wisconsin Basketball Program Next Season?
Judging solely on the comments made by Gard regarding Vukovic, the big man should have no problem finding a way into the lineup next season. The Wisconsin basketball program has been eager to add an impact big man to the team which can be seen all the way back to their recruitment of center Daniel Jacobsen.
Wisconsin loved what Jacobsen offers on the court, but fell short of landing a commitment from the recruit. Now, the Badgers get their man after months of behind the scene work to land one of the top international recruits available.
