The Wisconsin Badgers running back group is usually strong year after year. It seems to be the DNA of this football program and this season should be no different. Even with Braleon Allen leaving for the NFL, the Badgers will be fine at the position.
For the 2024 season, the projected starting running back on this football team will be Chez Mellusi. A season ago with Wisconsin, he rushed for 307 yards on 51 carries and four touchdowns, along with averaging 6.0 yards per carry. Mellusi also only caught three passes for 12 yards receiving and zero touchdowns last season in the receiving game.

He averaged 4.0 yards per reception and the Badgers will have him as a premier running back rather than a running back catching passes out of the backfield. Tawee Walker is projected to be the backup running back on the Badgers roster this season.
He played for the Oklahoma Sooners last season and is a transfer. Walker with the Sooners rushed for 513 yards on 102 carries and seven touchdowns, along with averaging 5.0 yards per carry. He also caught 10 passes for 81 yards receiving and zero touchdowns. Tawee Walker also averaged 8.1 yards per catch.
The transfer from Oklahoma can provide a boost to the running game this season for Wisconsin. The reasoning that Ben Kenney of badgerswire.usatoday.com wrote about the running back group by saying:
“Walker seems to have been a terrific transfer addition to complement Mellusi in the backfield. As usual, don’t worry about Wisconsin’s running backs. It’s a deep and talented group.”
Other Than Those Two Running Backs For the Wisconsin Badgers They Have Nice Depth

Jackson Acker will be the third running back on the Badgers roster and Cade Yacamelli will be the fourth-string running back on the roster. They both saw the field last year for Wisconsin. Acker rushed for 322 yards on 72 carries and two touchdowns, along with averaging 4.5 yards per carry. He has the most rushing yards for someone who is returning to the Wisconsin Badgers this season.
Acker also caught 19 passes for 108 yards receiving and one touchdown, along with averaging 5.7 yards per reception. Jason Acker will also see the field at some point this season for Wisconsin depending on what happens.

Cade Yacamelli also rushed for 169 yards on 36 carries and zero touchdowns, but he averaged 4.7 yards per carry. Yacamelli will also be entering his second season with the football program. With him being projected fourth on the depth chart, it will be hard for him to get play time unless there are injuries or if the Badgers are in some blowouts this season. No matter how good or how bad Wisconsin will be this season, the running back group is always good.
