The Wisconsin Badgers moved on from Jim Leonhard after they made the move to hire Luke Fickell last season. The decision came as a shock to many Badgers fans. Leonhard was beloved by all of Badgers Nation and it was difficult to see him move on. That being said, Luke Fickell has brought expectations to the Badgers football team that haven’t been there in years.
Now, Leonhard is set to start his coaching career in the NFL.
Former Wisconsin Badgers Coach Jim Leonhard Accepts NFL Job
Denver Broncos are expected to hire a former NFL safety to replace defensive backs coach Christian Parker, who left for the Philadelphia Eagles in a lateral move.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano reported on Sunday that the Broncos will hire Jim Leonhard as their new defensive backs coach. From 2005 to 2014, Leonhard played in the NFL. He played for six teams, including the Denver Broncos in 2012.
In 142 games (73 starts), Leonhard recorded 428 tackles, 14 interceptions, and 4.5 sacks in his career. After returning to Wisconsin – his alma mater – as a defensive backs coach in 2016, he transitioned into coaching.
The Badgers promoted Leonhard to defensive coordinator in 2017, and he served as interim head coach in 2022. In 2023, Leonhard left Wisconsin to become a senior football analyst at Illinois. It will be very interesting to watch Leonhard back in the NFL for Badgers fans.
