The Wisconsin Badgers have reportedly become a school that should be in contention for a massive transfer quarterback.
Conner Weigman, a former standout quarterback for Texas A&M, made the decision to enter the transfer portal after a difficult season involving injuries and narrow losses. The Aggies and Weigman both had respectable seasons but nowhere close to the season they both sides had expected to occur with an 8-4 record to finish the year.
One key factor separating the two sides, however, is where the Aggies are trending and where Weigman ultimately wants to end up before finishing his collegiate football career. The injury history of Weigman also led to his decision as the Aggies have seemingly found a replacement for the quarterback.

According to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, the five programs to watch moving forward are going to be Iowa, Louisville, Missouri, Syracuse, and Wisconsin. Other programs such as Utah, Oregon, and Washington have also been named as schools to watch according to CBS Sports, among another key fact.
Really talented dude. But his injury history would scare me off. Don’t need to go 3rd yr riding a backup the whole season.

Weigman decided to leave the Aggies due to the season the team had, but also due to the fact that he has clear College Football Playoff hopes moving forward into the transfer portal. Many of the programs named to be in the hunt for Weigman are programs who are not necessarily close to a playoff game, which begs the question of how much many of these teams are planning on spending.
How Will the Wisconsin Badgers Approach Conner Weigman, the Transfer Portal?
The transfer portal is the newest part of college football that has become a do-or-die aspect of the game, with teams who refuse to participate struggling to keep up with other savvy programs.
The Wisconsin Badgers are coming off of a 5-7 season but have the faith in coach Luke Fickell guiding them forward and potentially opening the door for a few commitments. However, prestige and relationships will only go so far in the transfer portal, and the Badgers will have to seriously spend to potentially land any of the top talent with Weigman being included.
Quarterbacks in particular have proven to be tough investments to try and secure with many notable former transfer names commanding top dollar in the portal. Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward reportedly received upwards of $2-million to return to college football after entering his name into the NFL Draft. The Wisconsin Badgers needed to surrender a respectable offer to quarterback Tyler Van Dyke this past offseason, who was not really considered to be part of the upper-echelon quarterbacks available.
Wisconsin has a clear commitment to winning moving forward as woes such as the 2024 season are not going to be tolerated moving forward. Coach Fickell is in a much different situation that he was a season ago and will now have a true shot at retooling the roster in favor of how the coach wants the team to play.
Weigman would be a game-changing addition, and even making a considerable offer to the quarterback would be a step in the right direction for the Wisconsin Badgers.
