The Wisconsin Badgers have a rich history of churning out star running backs with the program. Braelon Allen is no different. In three seasons with the Badgers, Allen accumulated 25 starts, 597 rushing attempts, 3,494 rushing yards, and 35 rushing touchdowns.
Now, the 19-year-old running back has made a decision about his future the the Badgers.
Breaking: Wisconsin Badgers RB Braelon Allen Declares For The 2024 NFL Draft
According to Evan Flood of 24/7 Sports:
The junior tailback announced Tuesday that he will forgo UW’s bowl game and enter his name in the 2024 NFL Draft.
This past season, Allen posted 984 yards and 12 scores on 181 carries while missing one game and the second half against Ohio State. Allen also caught a career-high 28 passes for 131 yards while transitioning to UW’s new spread, air-raid system under offensive coordinator Phil Longo.
In his final collegiate game, Allen helped the Badgers regain Paul Bunyan’s Axe with a 28-14 win over rival Minnesota. In that victory, Allen ran for a season-best 165 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries.
One of the more unique stories in recent memory, Allen was originally recruited to play safety under former head coach Paul Chryst in the class of 2022. Reclassifying up a year, Allen was moved to tailback ahead of the 2021 season and ran for 1,268 yards and 12 touchdowns as a 17-year-old true freshman.
Allen was a two-time, soon-to-be three-time All-Big Ten selection, earning second-team honors in both 2021 and 2022.
Where Does This Leave The Badgers Running Back Room Currently?
Jackson Acker will likely play a large role in the Badgers’ rushing attack for their bowl game this year. The 6’2″ 200 pound running back has averaged over four yards per carry so far this year.
His stats to date are 58 carries, 236 yards, and one touchdown. He also has 18 receptions for 86 yards and one score. The Badgers’ offense may focus on the passing game a little more than normal with Allen no longer being an option. It will be interesting to see what the Badgers offense looks like and who they face off against in this year’s bowl game.
