Both William and Willson Contreras are catchers in the National League Central. William Contreras joined the Milwaukee Brewers during the offseason as part of a three team trade. Willson Contreras left the Chicago Cubs and signed a massive contract with the St. Louis Cardinals. Now, the two brothers are competing against one another and during Friday’s game they shared a special moment before an at-bat.

William Contreras was behind the dish for the Brewers when his older brother came up to bat in the second inning. Before Willson saw a pitch, the two embraced each other with a hug before flipping the switch to competition mode.
There is a five year age difference between the brothers in which William is 25 years old whereas Willson is 30. William was elected to his first All-Star game last year and Willson has been to three. There should be plenty more All-Star appearances to come from this sibling duo from Venezuela.
With the new balanced schedule William and Willson Contreras will square off 13 times during the 2023 regular season. Their first six match ups will come before May 17. After that, the Brewers and Cardinals will not meet again until the end of September.
It should be fun to see these two play against one another over the course of the next several years. Both are under contract or team control until minimum 2027. Willson’s contract with the Cardinals does include a 2028 team option.
