Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is a free agent for the first time in his 20-year NFL career. Earlier this offseason, the New York Jets informed the four-time NFL MVP that they were going to go in a different direction and that he would be released with a post-June 1 designation. And on Wednesday of this past week, they did just that.
In the meantime, New York signed former Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields to take over. Rodgers, on the other hand, remains unsigned, though there have been multiple teams that have expressed interest in adding him. According to reports, he even has an offer on the table to play for the Steelers next season, but he is apparently waiting to hear back from a franchise he would like to join even more.
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Wants to Play for the Minnesota Vikings

While the Steelers and New York Giants have each apparently expressed interest in bringing Rodgers in to play quarterback for them in 2025, it is the Minnesota Vikings whom the future Pro Football Hall of Famer reportedly would rather join.
According to a report by The Athletic:
“Rodgers is hoping to sign with the Vikings, who went 14-3 in 2024 before suffering a first-round playoff defeat to the Los Angeles Rams. Meanwhile, the Vikings have been strongly weighing the possibility of pursuing Rodgers as a replacement for 2024 starter Sam Darnold, who signed a three-year, $100 million free-agent deal Wednesday with the Seattle Seahawks.”
Of course, this news is ironic given the fact that Rodgers’ predecessor in Green Bay, Brett Favre, went on to play for the Jets and then the Vikings following his tenure with the Packers.
Minnesota Vikings Fans Do Not Want Aaron Rodgers

But while Vikings fans were thrilled to have Favre join their team back in 2009, they now have a completely opposite stance regarding the potential of adding Rodgers:
I don’t want Aaron Rodgers on my team, not because of his beliefs, but because he is a washed-up narcissistic attention-heaux and I don’t want that bad energy anywhere near the Vikings.

If I’m the Vikings … J.J. McCarthy > Aaron Rodgers

This is the biggest concern with Aaron Rodgers for Vikings fans. A wonderful culture is in place. Why mess with it? pic.twitter.com/ANRLRAXdLy

As a 57yo #Vikings fan, I’d rather risk never seeing my team win a Super Bowl with the 20ish years I have left than have the only Vikings championship be w Aaron Rodgers as my team’s QB.

As one can see, Vikings fans are not really questioning whether or not Rodgers can play at a high level. Rather, they do not want him in Minnesota because of all the off-field drama and baggage that come with him.
