The Green Bay Packers in 2022 were ranked 17th in passing yards per game, logging in a pedestrian 213.6 yards in the air per contest. It is worth noting that this was under the Aaron Rodgers regime, and not the new man under center, Jordan Love.
With that in mind though, even a great quarterback is only as good as the weapons around him. After all, a QB cannot run routes and catch balls all by himself. The players around Love are just as vital, if not more so, than Love himself.
That is why I want to go over the key moments of a YouTube video in which the official Green Bay Packers channel uploaded this morning, highlighting the developments of the receiving core in this article today.
Jayden Reed: The high-flying rookie from MSU
Jayden Reed is a rookie wide out for the Green Bay packers, who was drafted 50th overall in the 2023 NFL draft. He showed some promise at Michigan State, and that potential is carrying over to the NFL so far. In the first quarter of the previous preseason match versus the New England Patriots, he capped off a five play, 93 yard drive, with a 19 yard touchdown catch.
The score occurred on a simple, but perfectly executed, slant route on a beautiful pass thrown right through the defense by Jordan Love. The way he flies off of the line at the moment the ball is snapped, is impressive, especially for a rookie.
Romeo Doubs: The sophomore NOT in a slump
Romeo Doubs is a second year wide receiver which was drafted by the Packers with the 132nd pick of the 2022 NFL draft. Having three touchdowns on 425 yards in his rookie season last year, this is the year that he’s expected to break out into a star for the Packers going forward.
Him and Reed aren’t the only two receivers with star talent on this roster by any stretch of the imagination. They are just two of the youngest prospects in the receiving core, with arguably the most potential going forward out of anybody else at the position for the Packers.
This is the case for Romeo Doubs in particular, who started off as the first Packers scorer in their 2023 preseason campaign, in the 36-19 preseason opener win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
