The Green Bay Packers defense is going to have a tall task this weekend in trying to slow down Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes completed 79.4% of his passes for 298 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-17 win over the Las Vegas Raiders (5-7) on Sunday.

Kansas City scored 17 second-half points and the Chiefs offense has been struggling in the second-half of football games previously. Because of that, Mahomes had some strong words to the rest of the NFL, including the Green Bay Packers defense.

He told the media on Sunday after the win against the Las Vegas Raiders:

“We kept pressing and pushing and we’re going to keep going the rest of the season.”

Two of the players on defense that the Packers will need to be wary of this week are tight end Travis Kelce and rookie wide receiver Rasheed Rice. Kelce is one of the best tight ends in the NFL and Rice is becoming Mahomes’s favorite wide receiver target and it is something that they have been struggling with all season long.

Green Bay Packers Linebacker Rashan Gary Will Need to Distrupt Patrick Mahomes to Have a Chance on Sunday Night

One of the most important things when facing an elite quarterback is trying to slow them down with a pass rush. Yes, the Packers’ defense did give up 332 yards and two touchdowns on Thanksgiving to Jared Goff, but they did make Goff uncomfortable.

Rashan Gary recorded three sacks in the game and he will need to have a repeat performance against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City does not have a strong offensive line. Green Bay also scored a defensive touchdown against the Lions.

Gary is the most important player on this defense. Mahomes could throw 300 yards and two touchdowns, but Rashan Gary will need to be the one who doesn’t make those plays look easy. They will need to win the line of scrimmage.

If the Kansas City Chiefs offense gets going early against the Green Bay Packers defense, Jordan Love will need to match point for point and that will be a tall ask. The way to keep Mahomes’s mouth quiet is to put his head on the turf.
