Jordan Love came to the defense of his quarterbacks.
During the lead-up to Super Bowl LIX, Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs suggested that the Packers need to add a true No. 1 wide receiver this offseason, in order to take the next step.
“We’ve got a really young group of receivers,” Jacobs told 97.3 The Game on Wednesday. “All can be really, really, really special, but I think personally we need a guy that’s proven to be a No. 1 already, somebody that we know is going to be a little bit more consistent.”
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst has the opportunity in the coming weeks and months during free agency and the 2025 NFL Draft to significantly upgrade Green Bay’s wide receiver corps, whether it is by trading for Davante Adams or Cooper Kupp, signing Tee Higgins, or selecting at least one of the top receiver prospects in this year’s draft class.
Jordan Love Has Packers Receivers’ Backs

But, even if the same set of young but ascending receivers return, alongside emergent star Tucker Kraft at tight end, Love is confident in the Packers’ pass catchers
“Like you said,” Love said during an appearance on ESPN’s NFL Live. “I think we have different guys that can play and do different things better than other guys and I think we have a deep receiver room. Obviously, like you mention Tucker Kraft, but I think we got a lot of guys that can grow into that role and I think we’re still young, we’re still building this thing and guys are still proving themselves.
“Josh made those comments and I’ll always ride for my guys. I love the guys that we have. I always say if you add good players to an already good offense I think, you know, you can make it a better team.”
Kraft certainly has the look of a player capable of taking on a bigger role in the offense, and making up a bit for not having that top of the depth chart game-breaker at wide receiver.

However, Love’s slight regression in 2024 might need a Higgins, or an Adams, or a Kupp to open things up for the entire offense, turn the tide of his development, and create opportunities for Kraft over the middle of the field.
Whether Gutekunst and the Packers take a big swing at receiver remains to be seen, but one thing seems clear, Love has thrown his support behind his teammates currently in the receiver room.
