If the Green Bay Packers‘ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles proved anything, it is that defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley needs more playmakers in the secondary.
Whether it is matching up against the likes of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith in the postseason, or getting through a gauntlet in the NFC North that includes the likes of playmaking wide receivers Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, Amon-Ra St. Brown, D.J. Moore, and others, the Packers need to prioritize this offseason, adding quality depth at cornerback.
All-Pro safety Xavier McKinney proved the value that a defensive back can have on a team in his first season in Green Bay, and the Packers could look to prioritize cornerbacks in the upcoming draft.
Could the Packers Select Notre Dame CB Benjamin Morrison?
Pro Football Focus recently put together a seven-round mock draft for the Packers, headlined by general manager Brian Gutekunst and Green Bay selecting Notre Dame cornerback Benjamin Morrison in the first round.
“The Packers should begin revamping their cornerback group in Round 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft,” Josh Liskiewitz writes for PFF. “As they sit in the position’s value pocket at Pick 23. Despite having his 2024 campaign cut short by a hip injury in October, Benjamin Morrison has been a standout in coverage. Over 499 coverage snaps across the past two seasons, he was targeted 87 times, allowing just 39 receptions while recording four interceptions and forcing 17 incompletions.”
Morrison, six foot and 190 pounds, has the requisite length and physicality to hold his own at the next level.
During his three-year career in South Bend, Morrison intercepted nine passes while posting 84 total tackles and 18 pass breakups.
Given Jaire Alexander’s uncertain future and the Packers’ needing to prioritize the secondary this spring, Morrison could be a fascinating target to watch for Green Bay.
