Green Bay Packers Are Pursuing Former Pro Bowl Raiders Tight End Via Trade

The Green Bay Packers and Las Vegas Raiders have already made a blockbuster trade this offseason. A little over a month ago, the Packers traded their All-Pro wide receiver to the Raiders for a first and second round pick in this year’s draft. Previously, the team had placed the franchise tag on Adams. Over the course of the last few weeks, new details of their negotiations have emerged. Reportedly, the Packers were willing to pay Adams more money than he got in his new deal with Las Vegas. Adams, however, wanted to play closer to his family. Another detail was that Green Bay wanted Darren Waller in return. League rules, though, forbid a player who has been franchise tagged from being traded for another player. According to sources speaking with Cheesehead TV’s Aaron Nagler, the Packers have not given up trying to acquire the one-time Pro Bowl tight end.

Why the Packers Would Want Darren Waller

Despite having a plethora of good young tight end talent, the Packers do not have a solid tight end under contract after this season. Darren Waller, on the other hand, has two more years remaining on his contract. Both seasons are for $6.25 million, making him a very affordable asset.

The question, though, is how much do the Raiders value Darren Waller? Green Bay likely would have to part with some draft compensation, but not nearly what they got back from the Raiders in return for Adams. Without a first or second round pick in this year’s draft, though, Las Vegas may be willing to trade Waller for a second round pick.

Darren Waller was drafted in the sixth round by the Baltimore Ravens in 2015. After two years in Baltimore, he went to Oakland where he has played since. In 2019, Waller had a breakout season catching 90 passes for 1,145 yards and three touchdowns. He came in third in the NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award voting. In 2020, Waller had 107 receptions for 1,196 yards and nine touchdowns. Last year, Waller played in 11 games, catching 55 passes for 665 yards and two touchdowns.

What the hell are you smoking? If you’re the Raiders WHY would you ship Waller, who is cheap, for ANY price? And then to say: “Adams (and his contract and age) is worth more, so perhaps it can be done for a
