NFL news: It has now been more than a year since we last saw Marquez Valdes-Scantling in a Green Bay Packers uniform. The 6-foot-4 wide receiver took his talents to the Kansas City Chiefs last summer, where he ended up winning a Super Bowl ring in his debut campaign. Valdes-Scantling is now entering Year 2 with Patrick Mahomes and Co., and at this point, he’s looking back at his Packers stint to help him improve further in his second season in Kansas City.
NFL News: Marquez Valdes-Scantling Has Fond Memories From Packers Stint
One of the most important aspects of Valdes-Scantling’s four-year tenure with the Packers was how he was exposed to the leadership qualities of his teammates. In particular, the 28-year-old vividly recalls how the likes of Davante Adams and Randall Cobb influenced his career early on. Naturally, Aaron Rodgers’ leadership qualities are also something that rubbed off on MVS:
“Just seeing those guys go to work every day,” he said, via Fox Sports. “and then having a guy like Aaron as a young guy — seeing what that looks like then and now being able to do that in a different light, and be a veteran to those guys, and watching how Pat and Travis go about their business, just like, I got to be the same guy for the young guys in the room, too.”
Now that he’s entering his sixth season as a pro, Valdes-Scantling knows that he needs to take on a veteran role for his younger Chiefs teammates. He clearly has his Packers stint to thank for preparing him for this major transition.
NFL News: Marquez Valdes-Scantling Talks Up Potential of Rookie Teammate
Speaking of young teammates, MVS had nothing but high praise for incoming second-year wide receiver Skyy Moore. The 22-year-old did not have the best of rookie campaigns last year, but he is now looking to bounce back in his second season with the Chiefs.
“You know, the second year in, knowing the offense, being more comfortable in who he is — they drafted him in the second round for a reason,” Valdes-Scantling said of Moore. “He is super talented and having him be able to move around and do some things that he can do, I’m excited to see what the season holds for him.”
It sounds like Valdes-Scantling intends to take the young wideout under his wing this coming season. This can only be a good thing for Skyy Moore.
