NFL News: Dalvin Cook remains one of the best free agents currently available. The Minnesota Vikings released the 27-year-old in early June after failing to find a trade partner. Cook has been scheduled to make $10.4 million in base salary this upcoming season. Cook has drawn a lot of attention from teams throughout the league, however, one team won’t be getting a visit from him any time soon.
Dalvin Cook Turns Down Free Agent Visit Opportunity (NFL News)
Free agent running back Dalvin Cook put to bed reports that he was near a deal with the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday. He went as far as saying he declined a visit with the team. Cook responded to reports he was offered a deal with the Dolphins via Twitter:
“I declined a visit so you know my guy,” Cook wrote in response to Pat McAfee hinting at the connection.
The Miami Dolphins have been long considered the top contender for Dalvin Cook. They have been actively seeking to bolster their offensive line. As a Miami native, Cook may want to return home, adding value to a backfield currently led by Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., and rookie De’Von Achane. However, that is on pause for now.
Who Is Leading The Race For Running Back Dalvin Cook? (NFL News)
While many teams are showing interest, it may depend on another free agent, DeAdnre Hopkins. Cook said it would be “epic” for the league if he were on the same offense as Hopkins:
“Everybody knows who D-Hop is,” Cook said, calling him a “dynamic player.” “You know what you’re getting out of D-Hop, and you know what he going to bring to your roster. It’s the same for me. Like you know — the film speaks for itself — I don’t really got to do too much like, you know, talking about who Dalvin Cook and DeAndre Hopkins is.
“But we haven’t talked. And he was one of those guys that I was going to reach out to, because, like, I know he got the same mindset as me, like we trying to go win. We’re trying to go on the roster and trying to go contend.”
It may be difficult for that to happen, however. Hopkins has made it clear he wants a contract similar (or greater than) the one that Odell Beckham Jr. got from the Baltimore Ravens. Beckham is making $15 million annually with his new contract. As mentioned above, Cook was set to make more than $10 million with the Vikings in 2023. If both players receive contracts similar to what they want, one team would have to fork over nearly $25 million for two players. That is very unlikely to happen.
