NFL news: There were some whispers about Aaron Rodgers following in Tom Brady’s footsteps this summer in terms of calling it a career. As it turns out, however, Rodgers didn’t really have any plans of hanging it up. Instead, he made the big move to the New York Jets to start a new chapter in his decorated career.
NFL News: Aaron Rodgers Not Thinking About Retirement
Rodgers will be headed to Canton, Ohio on Thursday for the Jets’ Hall of Fame Game against the Cleveland Browns. The four-time league MVP won’t be suiting up for the matchup, but he will nonetheless be in close proximity to this year’s Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.
When asked to share his thoughts about his own Hall of Fame induction, Rodgers deflected:
“Rodgers says the trip to Canton won’t have him thinking about his own HOF induction some day. He says that’s ‘eight or nine years‘ down the road,” per Rich Cimini of ESPN.
You have to note that players only become eligible to the Hall of Fame five years after their retirement. Based on Rodgers’ own timeline here, this only means that he intends to play on for at least three or four more seasons.
NFL News: Could Aaron Rodgers End Career With Packers?
Aaron Rodgers’ current contract with the Jets will end in 2025. If he says that he wants to play four more years, then this means that he could still suit up one season beyond his current Jets deal. Could it be possible that Rodgers somehow finds his way back to the Green Bay Packers for one last dance?
Rodgers didn’t have a very amicable divorce with the Packers this summer, but Green Bay supporters aren’t exactly burning his jersey either. If he does indicate his desire to return and potentially retire with the Packers, then I can see a scenario wherein he’s welcomed back by Cheeseheads with open arms.
