Green Bay Packers safety Xavier McKinney has started the 2024 NFL season on a historic note, registering an interception in all four games. His fourth consecutive pick occurred during the Packers’ most recent meeting against the Vikings, cementing his place in both franchise and league history.
McKinney has now registered an interception in all four games for the Packers, demonstrating why he was signed to a rich long-term contract in the offseason. McKinney is on track to reach his career high of five picks with the Giants in 2021.
McKinney intercepted former Alabama teammate Jalen Hurts in the Packers’ 34-29 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles on September 6, Anthony Richardson in Green Bay’s 16-10 win over the Indianapolis Colts on September 15 and Will Levis in the Packers’ 30-14 victory over the Tennessee Titans on September 22.
Despite the amazing interception streak, the Vikings defeated the Packers 31-29. Minnesota scored touchdowns on four of their first five possessions, while the Packers missed two field goals, falling down 28 to 0.
Xavier McKinney has edged his name in Packers history
McKinney’s early-season dominance has improved Green Bay’s defense while also highlighting his ball-hawking instincts and playmaking abilities. As the 2024 season progresses, his amazing run puts him in uncommon company, leaving fans and analysts alike wondering how far he can go.
McKinney is the first player in 29 seasons to start the season with four consecutive interceptions. He joins an elite group of only four players since 1970 who have accomplished this feat: Otis Smith (1995 with the New York Jets), Terry Jackson (1978 with the New York Giants), and Ken Lee (1972 with Buffalo).
With an improving defensive performance, McKinney is proven to be one of the NFL’s most dangerous safeties, producing game-changing plays week after week.
