The Green Bay Packers will headed into the offseason holding the 25th pick of the 2024 National Football League Draft as of right now. They also don’t have much cap space remaining to make moves in free agency. So who are the top Packers free agents that they need resign, go after in free agency and in the draft?
1. The Green Bay Packers’ Safety Darnell Savage (Re-sign)
The Packers first clear move is resigning Safety Darnell Savage. All over X (Twitter), many Packers’ fans have been calling for signing Buccaneers’ All-Pro Safety Antione Winfield Jr. The main issue is that if Winfield isn’t tagged by the Buccaneers, he will command something upwards of $100 million. The Packers’ struggles with the cap make this signing near impossible. Based on how he has played, Savage has played significantly well and has been one of the best defensive players for the Packers. He shouldn’t mind taking a slight discount for staying in Green Bay as well.
2. The Green Bay Packers’ Aaron Jones (resign)
On a team full of young stars to be, running back Aaron Jones is a constant that will be going on to his third contract. He is going to be 30 during the next season and while he was injured a few games, it might be better to get him on a cheaper contract. Then the Packers will know that they will get great production from him for two-thirds of the season. His production versus AJ Dillon this season was unmatched and that was with Jones hurt for a few games.
3. The Green Bay Packers Should Draft Michigan Running Back Blake Corum.
A upgraded version of AJ Dillon, Michigan’s Blake Corum reached 1362 all-purpose yards and 28 all-purpose touchdowns this past season as well as becoming the all-time career rushing touchdown leader at Michigan with 58. The downside is that in his 4th year, he did have season-ending knee surgery in 2022. He returned with a vengeance in 2023 and helped the Wolverines go undefeated and win their National Championship since 1997. AJ Dillon being very similar, had fibula surgery in 2016. Blake Corum might be a second or third round choice if the Packers decide to get another running back.
4. The Green Bay Packers Sign Any Sort Of Experienced Kicker (Free Agency)
The smartest move might be to just bringing someone who can challenge Anders Carlson and see if he gets better between now and the end of preseason. Someone like Robbie Gould, Ryan Succop, or even, just hear me out, Mason Crosby should be enough to test Carlson and see if he really is the kicker of the future for the Packers. If not, then Crosby is just returning to the Packers. A very fitting end to his career for Crosby.
5. The Green Bay Packers Draft Patrick Paul, OT Houston
One thing the Packers need to work on is building up their offensive line. David Bakhtiari is getting older and has spent most of the season on the Injured Reserve list and with the contract that he has, drafting a lineman to protect the newest Packers’ legend Jordan Love makes the most sense. The 6’7 315 pound was dominant at Houston. His only downside was a season-ending lower leg injury in 2020. However, his career has been very fruitful since then.
