Everyone one not living under a rock knows that the Green Bay Packers are going to have a much different offense in 2022. Without Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, it would be impossible to keep pulling out the same plays. In order to help replace the two wide receivers, the Packers drafted three wide receivers in the 2022 NFL Draft. Earlier this month, Aaron Rodgers went on The Pat McAfee Show and talked about his new rookie crew of pass catchers. One NFL analyst, Mike Tanier of Football Outsiders, apparently did not like the way Rodgers talked about the new wide receivers.
What Did Aaron Rodgers Say about His Wide Receivers?
As we noted here, Aaron Rodgers spoke of how much his three new wide receivers LOOK like wide receivers. He went on to single out seventh-round pick Samori Toure as one who he thinks could be really special. He did say, though, that production is better than potential, and that there was no way to know what the production would be until they took the field. Rodgers also stated that the Packers’ defense will put the offense on trial by fire during training camp.
Mike Tanier Criticizes Both Aaron Rodgers and the Wide Receivers
In his preview of the various training camps of the NFC North, Mike Tanier had this to say about Aaron Rodgers:
“Aaron Rodgers lacks the patience/social skills/human decency to mumble polite platitudes about his new receiving corps. So unless someone emerges immediately as the next Davante Adams, Packers fans can look forward to a long summer of vacant stares and passive-aggressive negging. Business as usual, in other words, except that Rodgers will be disgruntled at his young teammates
instead ofin addition to the organization.”
I’m not sure what interview or what quarterback Tanier was listening to, but Rodgers certainly had plenty of good things to say about his rookie crew of receivers. However, he also was honest about not knowing what any of them are really capable of until it is proven on the field. That is true for every draft pick in the history of the NFL.
I’m also not sure why Tanier was so concerned about the feelings of the Packers’ wide receivers when it came to Rodgers’ comments. He certainly had nothing good to say about them:
“In short, this is not a playoff-caliber receiver corps, though it’s better than what the Bears or (pre-Jameson Williams) Lions will field. Rodgers will need to do a lot of heavy lifting to make these guys look good.”
Yikes, Mike. Sounds like Rodgers had better things to say about them than you.
