The Green Bay Packers head back home after a loss to the New York Giants in London. Packer fans are hoping to get back in the win column this upcoming week.
Jets vs Packers Series History
The Jets lead the overall series against the Packers 8-5. Aaron Rodgers has a record of 3-0 against the New York Jets in his career. In the last meeting, the Packers beat the Jets 44-38 in 2018.
Jets Offense NFL Week 6 Preview
The New York Jets left Miami with a win over the Dolphins 40-17. The starting quarterback is out for the Dolphins, so it may be a little surprising that they put up big numbers on the road. Jets quarterback Zach Wilson went 14-21 for 210 yards. He did not throw any passing touchdowns, but ran for a score. All of the scoring came on the ground for the Jets by Breece Hall and Michael Carter.
Hall had 18 carries for 87 yards and one rushing touchdown, along with 2 receptions for 100 yards. Carter carried the ball ten times for 21 yards and two scores. Wide receiver Braxton Berrios had a 15 yard rushing touchdown. Berrios was the only receiver with a score for the Jets in their win. Corey Davis had two receptions for 38 yards, while Garrett Wilson picked up 27 yards on 3 receptions.
Undoubtedly, the New York Jets will look to produce some scoring through the air against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau.
Packers Offense NFL Week 6 Preview
The Packers played a good first half against the New York Giants last week. Packers QB Aaron Rodgers went 25-29 for 222 yards and two touchdowns. Scoring only came from Allen Lazard, who had 4 catches for 35 yards and one touchdown. Veteran wideout Randall Cobb brought in 7 receptions for 99 yards. The other score came from Marcedes Lewis on a play-action pass from the 2 yard line.
The second half was not what the fans were hoping for. Packers running backs Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon combined for 20 carries and 93 yards rushing. Green Bay got away from the run game. When it should have been used throughout the last two quarters. Play calling down the stretch was also questionable trying to make a comeback, and when it came down to the final two plays in the game.
The Packers will have to get the game plan correct before hitting the field against the Jets. Rodgers has to connect with his receivers better. Whether that will be on short route passing or throwing down the field. Hopefully the run game will be more effective in Week 6 if Jones and Dillon are handed the ball for more carries. Rodgers did not practice on Wednesday due to a thumb injury on the final play in the loss to the Giants.
Jets Defense NFL Week 6 Preview
The New York Jets defense held the Miami Dolphins offense to 17 points. Backup quarterback Skylar Thompson went 19-33 for 166 yards and threw one interception. Teddy Bridgewater threw one incomplete pass before heading to the sideline with an injury.
Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley led the team with 10 total tackles, and seven solo. Kwon Alexander also had 10 tackles with 6 solo. The defense sacked the Dolphins twice during the game. Cornerback Sauce Gardner picked off Skylar Thompson one time. They did allow the Miami running back Raheem Mostert to pick up 113 yards on 18 carries and one touchdown.
It is not clear whether the Jets defense can keep up with Rodgers and the Packers offense. The New York Jets linebackers and secondary will be who the Packers offense will have to keep a close eye on going into this week’s game.
Packers Defense NFL Week 6 Preview
The Green Bay defense had a let down against the Giants offense last week. They gave up 17 unanswered points in the second half. Giants RB Saquon Barkley had 13 carries for 70 yards and one touchdown. He also took snaps from the wildcat formation, that may have caught the Packers defense off guard.
Barkley caught 3 passes for 36 yards receiving. With Daniel Jones playing with an apparent ankle injury, he snuck past the packers defensive line on 10 carries for 37 yards scrambling or picking up yards in open space. Green Bay could not stop the run offense of the Giants. Though the receiving core combined for 217 yards on 21 catches, they did not score any passing touchdowns.
Rookie linebacker Quay Walker led the defensive unit with 8 tackles last Sunday. Preston Smith sacked the Giants QB only once during the game. Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander made his return, in which he made 5 tackles and one tackle for a loss.
The Packers will have to find a way to keep the lead, and stop the run/pass offense against the Jets. Preparation will be key in Week 6, if they want to add a win to their record this week.
The New York Jets will face the Packers on October 16th at 1:00 pm at Lambeau Field.
