The New York Jets and Green Bay Packers will be compared to each other all season long. Even after Aaron Rodgers went down with his season-ending Achilles injury, the two teams will be watching each other. For the Packers, it’ll be to see what second-round draft pick they will have in 2024.
The Jets have signed a multitude of former Packers players this off-season. In addition to their trade for Rodgers, they signed Randall Cobb, Allen Lazard, Adrian Amos, Malik Taylor, Tim Boyle, Billy Turner, and signed former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. Now they have made a decision on former Packers Kicker Mason Crosby.
New York Jets Pass On Former Green Bay Packers Kicker Mason Crosby And Sign Austin Seibert
According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network:
The #Jets are signing veteran kicker Austin Seibert to kick in place of injured Greg Zuerlein on Sunday against the #Cowboys, per source.
Last season, Seibert kicked in three games for the Lions. He made three of his five field goals and 12 of his 12 extra points. He also spent time with the Browns and Bengals. Since starting 16 games as a rookie in Cleveland, he has mostly served as a fill-in option. The Jets decision comes as a bit of a surprise because Crosby has made it obvious he is staying ready for the 2023 season.
Crosby released a statement on Twitter prior to the start of the season. Crosby wanted to reflect on his career from high school through his days in the NFL:
“As the first @nfl weekend of the ‘23 season begins I’m still preparing but taking this rare moment of downtime to reflect on some of the past moments. So thankful for my family, great coaches and teammates and the support of all the fans. #football #grateful”
Crosby had been long rumored as a potential option for the Jets this season, especially due to his relationship Aaron Rodgers. It will be interesting to see if any team takes a chance on Crosby this year.
