NBA rumors: Much like the Milwaukee Bucks, the Los Angeles Lakers are also in the final stages of rounding out their roster for the upcoming season. While the Bucks still have a significant dilemma surrounding their backup point guard for 2023-24, the Lakers are looking to shore up their frontcourt for the season ahead.
Jordan Pagkalinawan of Last Word of Sports has floated a trio of centers that could emerge as potential targets for the Lakers as the new campaign approaches. Two of them happen to be former Milwaukee Bucks big men.
NBA Rumors: Serge Ibaka Returns to LA
Before Serge Ibaka took his talents to Milwaukee, the 6-foot-10 big man played a year and a half with the Los Angeles Clippers. The possibility of the 33-year-old veteran returning to LA has now been suggested, except that this time around, he’ll be suiting up for the Los Angeles Lakers.
There’s no denying that Ibaka is no longer the defensive stalwart he once was, but he could still bring a lot to the table for the Lakers. Pagkalinawan points out that he could step into a Dwight Howard-type role for the Lakers as a backup center, while also serving as a mentor for summer recruit Jaxson Hayes.
We all know how Ibaka feels about the Bucks, so perhaps a fresh start in Hollywood is what he needs.
NBA Rumors: Lakers Land Big-Name Free Agent Christian Wood
Another player who could end up signing with the Lakers this offseason is Christian Wood, who himself briefly suited up for the Bucks back in 2018-19. This isn’t the first time the controversial big man has been linked to a move to LA, but in spite of his respectable track record on the court, the Lakers — and the rest of the NBA, for that matter — have opted to steer clear of Wood. It seems that the 27-year-old has some issues off the court, which has hindered him from signing a new contract in the league. Still, it would not be a surprise at all if Wood is able to find a new home before the season begins.
