Milwaukee Bucks general manager Jon Horst has done his job of filling out the roster for the upcoming 2023-2024 season for this franchise. However, one of the things that has to have crossed his mind is that he doesn’t have a backup point guard for Jrue Holiday.
Milwaukee Bucks Lack an Ideal Backup Point Guard in 2023
Giannis Antetokounmpo and Grayson Allen are two of the players on this roster that have been the secondary ball handlers when Jrue Holiday is not the primary ball handler. Point guard is one of the most important positions to have depth at in the NBA. The Milwaukee Bucks would be in big-time trouble without Holiday, even at 33 years old.
He is one of the better defenders in the NBA and is always consistent on a night-to-night basis. In 67 games a season ago, Holiday averaged 19.3 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 7.4 APG, 0.4 BPG, and 1.2 SPG.
Goran Dragic was on the Milwaukee Bucks a season ago and is still an unrestricted free agent. He was the backup point guard. Even though he is 37 years old, it wouldn’t be a bad thing to bring him back on a cheap deal. Some of the other point guards that could backup Jrue Holiday that are still on the market are Kendrick Nunn, Ish Smith, George Hill, and Matthew Dellavedova.
Wesley Matthews and Malik Beasley are two of the other two guards on the roster, but are not meant to be secondary ball handlers for this basketball team. It will be interesting to see how general manager Jon Horst will address that part of the roster before the 2023-2024 season.
Pat Connaughton is another guard that is on the Milwaukee Bucks roster that comes off the bench, but is also a two-guard and not a one. Having a distributor off the bench is huge but not every team will be perfect. This could be one of the Milwaukee Bucks’s flaws heading into the 2023-2024 NBA regular season.
