At this point in the offseason, it’s no surprise that NBA news has been dominated by free agency rumors. After all, we’re all about to embark on one of the craziest parts of the calendar year for the NBA. For their part, however, the Milwaukee Bucks are making waves for an entirely different reason. Yes, the Bucks have been involved in their fair share of trade and free agency rumors, but the big development in the organization involves a major milestone in the coaching department.
Sidney Dobnder Is Promoted As The First Female Assistant Coach In Bucks Franchise History
Wednesday was a historic day for the Bucks organization. New head coach Adrian Griffin just added a new assistant to his coaching staff, and it comes in the form of Sidney Dobner, who happens to be the first female assistant coach for the Bucks since the team was established way back in 1969:

According to her LinkedIn profile, Dobner was promoted from being the Head Video Coordinator for the Bucks. She is now entering her sixth season with the team, and you have to say that it’s about time she got her seat on the big boys’ table. Dobner’s clearly done a lot to impress the Milwaukee brass during her time with the organization, and she now has a golden opportunity in her hands.
Adrian Griffin Spearheads A New Era Of Coaching For The Bucks
Now that she’s an assistant, Sidney Dobner will be serving under first-year head coach Adrian Griffin, who has replaced former Coach of the Year winner Mike Budenholzer. Despite this being Griffin’s first year as a head coach, this man has a wealth of experience under his belt.
Prior to agreeing to take on the high-profile head coaching gig in Milwaukee, Griffin worked under Nick Nurse for the Toronto Raptors. Griffin played a key role behind the scenes in Toronto’s majestic 2019 title run. Before being an assistant coach with the Raptors, Griffin also had previous stints with the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Orlando Magic, and the Chicago Bulls. The 48-year-old was also part of Team USA’s coaching staff when they bagged the gold medal in the 2014 FIBA World Cup.
Adrian Griffin’s first coaching job was actually with the Bucks, where he worked as an assistant under Scott Skiles shortly after his NBA career ended. As a player, the 6-foot-5 wing played for five different teams in nine years. This included the Dallas Mavericks and the Bulls, among others.
Griffin will need all the help he can get now that he’s sitting at the helm for the Bucks. He’s smart to surround himself with a competent coaching staff, which includes a trail blazer such as Sidney Dobner. There’s going to be a lot of pressure on Griffin and his staff this coming season, and it remains to be seen how he will respond. Bucks fans are obviously hoping that he’s the right man for the job, and that he will be the one who coaches this team back to glory in the near future.
