In 2021 the Milwaukee Brewers acquired third baseman Eduardo Escobar at the trade deadline. The Arizona Diamondback received two hitting prospects in return. Escobar ended up signing with the New York Mets in free agency that following offseason.
During the 2022 season Escobar put up solid but still slightly below normal numbers with the Mets. He finished with a .240/.295/.430 slash line with 20 home runs and 69 runs batted in. This year the switch hitter ended up losing his starting job to Brett Baty and he has not played a big role with the Mets.
This year Escobar is owed $9.5 million and he has a $9.0 million club option for the 2024 season. With not having a starting role and the Mets currently slumping they viewed him as expendable and have traded him to the playoff hopeful Los Angeles Angels.

Former Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Eduardo Escobar has been traded to the Los Angeles Angels.
The Angels are currently enjoying one of their most successful seasons this late into the year as they are 41-36. It’s the last year in which they may have superstar Shohei Ohtani so making the playoffs would be a big deal for them.
Unfortunately over the course of 10 days third base became a priority for the Angels. Gio Urshela sustained a pelvic fracture and is likely out for the remainder of the season and Anthony Rendon ended up on the injured list.
This forced the Angels to strike a deal with the Mets in which they gave up two top 30 pitching prospects in Coleman Crow and Landon Marceaux. In return the Angels will get Eduardo Escobar to shore up their infield as they continue their quest for the post season.
