Milwaukee Brewers rookie Brice Turang announced a jersey number change prior to the teams opening game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Turang, who upon cracking the big leagues wore number zero, switched to the number two after Luis Urias was traded. Why did Milwaukee Brewers rookie Brice Turang change his jersey number?
Brice Turang, son of former big league player Biran Turang who wore number one, adopted the idea of wearing number two in 2019. This concept was based on the idea that he was following in his fathers footsteps. He knew that with the Brewers number one was retired (Bud Selig), so the number two grew on him.
This concept to honor his dad went deep enough that in 2019 Brice Turang got a tattoo on his shoulder. The ink shows two Turang baseball players with the numbers one and two standing side by side. Needless to say the fact that Brice now has the number two across his back means a lot to the Turang family.
Had Luis Urias not been traded at this year’s deadline there was a plan in place by Jason Shawger to switch Turang to number two during the offseason and Urias number three.
