The Milwaukee Bucks will be eyeing Purdue Boilermakers and other college programs’ talent during the 2024 NBA Draft process. Milwaukee will own the 23rd pick and the 33rd pick in the draft. The Bucks have a chance to fix the roster through the draft, through trades, and in free agency this summer.
With the Milwaukee Bucks flaming out in the playoffs the last two seasons in the first round, they are hoping they can learn from this and get better in the future. Milwaukee needs to make Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard happy for the long haul. Antetokounmpo missed the entire first-round series against the Indiana Pacers due to injury and Lillard also missed a couple of games because of injury.
General manager Jon Horst is committed to making it work with them and finding ways to improve the roster. The Milwaukee Bucks will be contenders again in the NBA next season as long as they make the right moves.
The Latest NBA Mock Draft Has the Milwaukee Bucks Selecting Purdue Boilermakers Star Zach Edey With the 23rd Overall Pick In the 2024 NBA Draft
One of the biggest mysteries in this year’s NBA Draft is when Zach Edey is going to get drafted. Some people think he could be a lottery pick and some people think he could be chosen near the end of the first round of the NBA Draft.
Edey helped the Purdue Boilermakers get number-one seeds in back-to-back NCAA Tournaments. They made it to the National Championship Game this season before losing to the UCONN Huskies. Colin Ward-Henninger of CBS Sports said about the Bucks taking Edey with this pick:
“The questions about Edey’s NBA fit are valid, but there’s no better player for him to learn from than Brook Lopez — and it doesn’t hurt that Milwaukee is a hop, skip and a jump from Purdue. In order to succeed, Edey will need to master the art of drop defense, which the Bucks have played for years with Lopez — a similarly slow-footed 7-plus-footer. Edey should block shots immediately, but the danger comes when he’s out in space against NBA-level speed and shot-making. His offensive role is a bit murky, but he should be able to get a few touches here and there in the post, where he dominated in college.”
Edey played in 39 games a season ago for the Purdue Boilermakers. He averaged 25.2 PPG, 12.2 RPG, 2.0 APG, 2.2 BPG, and 0.3 SPG. Zach Edey shot 62.3% from the field, 50.0% from three-point land, and 71.1% from the free-throw line.
He is 7’4″ and weighs 300 lbs. With Brook Lopez having one year remaining on his contract, general manager Jon Horst could look to trade him this offseason. They also need a replacement for him so Zach Edey could be the answer here.
