Giannis Antetokounmpo has served as the Milwaukee Bucks’ most important player for almost a decade now. And even after a disappointing run this season, the Greek Freak remained as the only untouchable individual in the roster as the team enters the offseason.
Antetokounmpo first joined the NBA as the Bucks’ 15th overall pick in the 2013 Draft. While he started out as a raw prospect, the Greek Freak would exponentially improve his game in the years since.

By 2017, Antetokounmpo was far from the thin rookie he was in 2013. During that period, the Bucks’ All-Star forward averaged 22.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.9 blocks per game. His performance that year earned him the league’s Most Improved Player award, marking his arrival as one of the sport’s up-and-coming stars.
From there, Antetokounmpo won the MVP award twice, obtained the Defensive Player of the Year in 2019, won a championship and Finals MVP in 2021, and selected to eight All-Star Games. All of those accolades combined has positioned the Greek forward as the Bucks’ best player since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar last played for the franchise in the 70s.

It’s no secret Antetokounmpo is the central piece in Milwaukee’s plan for the foreseeable future. And even though the Bucks are projected to make big changes in the offseason after the disappointing campaign they just had, an NBA analysis by Zach Buckley for Bleacher Report stated that the Greek Freak is safe from being moved.
“If the Bucks were going to get hyper-aggressive this summer, though, you could picture them moving almost anyone—other than Antetokounmpo.
The two-time MVP is firmly in his prime, having just posted his best-ever field-goal percentage (61.1) while averaging better than 30 points for the second consecutive campaign,” Buckely wrote.
As it stands, the Bucks can use its pair of draft picks and package them together with some of their players, such as Bobby Portis, Malik Beasley, or even All-Star Guard Damian Lillard. In any case, getting the most value out of these guys to surround Antetokounmpo with guys that fit better with Antetokounmpo might be a better idea.

It remains to be seen what Milwaukee’s front office is going to do in the coming months. What’s certain, though, is that Antetokounmpo will remain a Buck down the line.
