When it comes to basketball, All-Star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo has certainly done it all. But even after becoming a champion and winning most major awards in the league, the Milwaukee Bucks star is venturing out of the court soon to begin his journey into filmmaking.
Antetokounmpo first made waves when he was selected by Milwaukee using the 15th pick in the 2013 Draft. From there, the Bucks star established himself over the years as one of the most dominant players in the NBA.
After winning the Most Improved Player award in 2017, Antetokounmpo was named to two consecutive MVPs in 2019 and 2020. During the latter year, the league bestowed on him the Defensive Player of the Year award. Following that period, the Greek Freak became an NBA champion when he led Milwaukee to overcome the Phoenix Suns in the 2021 NBA Finals.
Since then, Antetokounmpo and company haven’t gone that far in the playoffs. Just recently, the Bucks were eliminated in the first round by Tyrese Haliburton and the Indiana Pacers, ending their quest to return to the Finals. Nevertheless, the Greek forward remains as one of the most talented guys to ever play in the NBA.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Impending Debut as Movie Producer
With the offseason in full swing, Antetokounmpo is now dabbling into the world of filmmaking. As it stands, the Greek Freak is going to produce a heist film set in Greece with Christopher André Marks directing. In an article written by Christopher Vourlias for Variety, the director shared his thoughts on the upcoming project.
“We are excited to shine additional light and join the wave of momentum Greek cinema has generated internationally, not only as a high-value shooting location for domestic and foreign productions, but also as a fertile ground for original storytelling that transcends well beyond its borders,” said Studio Galazio CEO Christopher André Marks.
His participation in this project isn’t the first time Antetokounmpo has been involved in this type of medium. Back in 2022, the Bucks star was an executive producer for The Flagmakers, a National Geographic documentary about immigrant workers employed at an American factory manufacturing flags.
The untitled film has not secured a release date or a schedule on when it’ll start being shot. In any case, this will be a big step for Antetokounmpo outside of his impressive NBA career.
