With Patrick Beverley set to play in Israel, the Milwaukee Bucks’ backcourt rotation could use some help next season. That can happen if the front office makes a move on Chicago Bulls’ Ayo Dosunmu to bolster the Giannis Antetokounmpo-led team later this year.
The Bulls may be facing a dilemma with Dosunmu. After a breakout second half of the season, where he averaged 16.3 points per game on impressive shooting splits, he has undoubtedly raised his value in the league.
The issue for the Bulls is that Dosunmu is currently on a team-friendly contract, which means they will have limited options to retain him long-term. The team can only offer him a small extension, and if they want to keep him, they’ll have to wait until he becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2026.
However, the Bulls could potentially leverage the guard’s increased value and trade him for significant assets. Teams like the Denver Nuggets or Minnesota Timberwolves, who are seeking backcourt depth, could be willing to part with valuable picks and players to acquire the Bulls guard while he’s still on his affordable deal.
The Bulls’ decision will come down to whether they prioritize retaining Dosunmu’s services or maximizing the return they can get for him in a trade. It’s a delicate balance, but the organization must weigh its options carefully to avoid letting a valuable asset slip through its fingers.
Milwaukee Bucks Acquire Chicago Bulls’ Ayo Dosunmu in Intriguing Trade Idea
Apart from the Nuggets or Wolves, the Bucks may also enter the fray to acquire the guard from Chicago. In an article by Grant Hughes for Bleacher Report, Milwaukee moves Pat Connaughton and a draft pick for Dosunmu.
“Dosunmu would be an upgrade over Pat Connaughton in the rotation, could spell Damian Lillard at the point and brings much more youth and athleticism than anyone else who figures to see the floor regularly in Milwaukee—unless Andre Jackson Jr. forces his way into more playing time,” Hughes wrote.
Over the course of 76 games last season, 37 of those as a starter, the Bulls guard averaged 12.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists. He also shot 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from deep while playing well on the defensive end of the court.
It remains to be seen where Dosunmu will end up once his rookie contract expires. If he makes his way to Milwaukee, expect him to contribute to the Bucks’ championship quest right away.
