After winning their 15th game in a row the Milwaukee Bucks made a surprising move on Wednesday evening cutting one of their young players. That player was 23 year-old center, Sandro “Mamu” Mamukelashvili.

Mamu was a late second-round draft pick out of Seton Hall in the 2021 NBA Draft and showed flashes as a offensive minded center who could do a little bit of everything. Mamu was a two-way player for the Bucks meaning he would split time on the Bucks and the team’s G-League team, the Wisconsin Herd.
In his 16 appearances over the last two seasons for the Herd he averaged 21.3 points a game, 11.4 rebounds a game, on 52% shooting from the field and not to mention, 40% from three-point range including two makes a game on top of that. Mamu clearly showed that he is an NBA player with the numbers he would put together in the G-League and did show flashes when he would receive some minutes in some NBA games. Including, a career high 28 points and 13 rebounds last April against the Cavaliers.
This move is very unfortunate as the Bucks do not possess many young players on this team, but the team must be looking to make room for another veteran for the team’s playoff push or will re-roll with a new young player under a two-way contract. Hopefully, Mamu can find another spot in the NBA where a team will give him an opportunity to play more minutes. As, the Bucks do not have the time to develop younger players versus a lot of other teams in the league. Mamu’s energy on the bench and fun presence will be missed for many fans and the team. The hardest part about this move is seeing the Bucks giving up on another young player, before seeing them all the way through.
