The basketball world has been mourning since it was revealed on Wednesday evening that former United States senator and ex-Milwaukee Bucks team owner Herb Kohl had passed away at the age of 88. The details of his death remain unclear at this point, other than the fact that he previously battled a brief illness before his passing.
Khol is obviously no spring chicken, but his death still comes as a heartbreaking surprise for anyone and everyone who knew him.
Adam Silver Reacts to Death of Ex-Milwaukee Bucks Owner Her Kohl

One of the individuals who had a longstanding personal relationship with Kohl is NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. It was the league’s head honcho himself who released a statement on the passing of his “dear friend” via the NBA Communications Twitter account:
“Senator Kohl was a dear friend and one of our very best public servants,” Silver said. “In addition to his decades of devoted service in the U.S. Senate, he set the standard for NBA team ownership as the governor of his hometown Milwaukee Bucks for nearly 30 years. Through his purchase of the team, Senator Kohl ensured that the Bucks would stay in Milwaukee and remain an important pillar of the community. There was never any doubt about his extraordinary commitment to the franchise and the city he loved, and his vision and unparalleled financial contribution towards a new arena in Milwaukee will forever be remembered.”

The good commissioner then sent his personal condolences to everyone Kohl has left behind:
“I send my deepest condolences to Senator Kohl’s family, friends, and the Bucks organization. He will be deeply missed by his NBA family,” Silver said.

As Commissioner Silver said, Kohl set the bar in terms of team owners having as much love, passion, and dedication as he had for the Bucks and the city of Milwaukee.
The league will be hard-pressed to find an owner as great as Herb Kohl.
