It just feels like the Milwaukee Bucks will need to go for broke ahead of the fast-approaching NBA trade deadline. Defense remains to be a significant issue for this team and ultimately, this could be what leads to their downfall in the playoffs.
Several names have already been linked to the Bucks, but a swoop for one star, in particular, could be the type of high-risk, high-reward move Milwaukee could significantly benefit from.
Could Warriors Place Andrew Wiggins on Trade Block?
That star could be Andrew Wiggins of the Golden State Warriors.
According to a recent report by Tim Kawakami of The Athletic, Golden State could be facing a real dilemma in the wing position with Wiggins’ skillset overlapping with that of third-year forward Jonathan Kuminga. Moreover, Wiggins is currently having his worst season as a Warrior, thereby adding more questions about his future with the squad.
It is worth noting, however, that Wiggins is currently in the first year of his four-season deal worth $109 million. However, Kawakami notes that this “would not be a major barrier for the Warriors to explore Wiggins’ trade market.”
At this point, it would not be surprising if Wiggins ends up being placed on the trade block as we approach the February deadline.
Milwaukee Bucks Urged to Risk it All for Wiggins
Acquiring Wiggins would be a massive addition for the Bucks. The former All-Star will provide a significant boost to Milwaukee’s defense on the wing, while also giving them another elite scoring option on offense.
Dalton Sell of FanSided believes that the Bucks should do whatever they can to try and lure Wiggins to Milwaukee.
“Wiggins’ defense would help the Bucks tremendously this season, giving them a perimeter defender who’s not afraid to take on the toughest assignments, but he’s also no slouch on offense. Over the previous three years, Wiggins averaged 17.7 points while shooting 47.2 percent from the floor and 38.9 percent from deep. He’d make Milwaukee’s offense even stronger,” Sell wrote.
There is no doubt, however, that the Warriors will demand a major haul for the former Rookie of the Year. Sell believes that the Bucks will need to conjure up a substantial trade package consisting of “Bobby Portis, Pat Connaughton, and a minimum salary (MarJon Beauchamp, A.J. Green, Chris Livingston, Robin Lopez, etc.)” to make a potential deal work.
Given how Wiggins will almost certainly be a sought-after name if he becomes available, it’s very likely that the Bucks will potentially face some tough competition for his services.
