It’s not a headline-grabbing move this time, but the Milwaukee Bucks have made another trade. This time, the major acquisition appears to be one of their own players. The Bucks have sent Patrick Baldwin Jr., whom they recently added as part of the trade that sent Khris Middleton to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Kyle Kuzma, to the San Antonio Spurs, in addition to cash considerations.

What Move Did the Milwaukee Bucks Make?

ESPN’s Shams Charania did not elaborate on what Milwaukee is directly adding in the deal, but fan speculation appears to answer that question. The move frees up a roster spot for the Bucks to be able to sign one of their own, namely point guard Ryan Rollins.
Ryan Rollins Could Be Set for Larger Role on the Milwaukee Bucks
Rollins has been on a two-way deal this year for Milwaukee, meaning he can only appear in a limited number of games before he must sign a full NBA contract. Rollins has seen action in 33 games this year and been a useful player. This season, he has averaged 5 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per contest. It would make sense that head coach Doc Rivers would want to retain him as a rotation option.

Rollins was a 2nd round pick out of Toledo in 2022, where he was selected by the Atlanta Hawks at 44 overall. He spent time with both the Golden State Warriors and the Washington Wizards prior to landing with Milwaukee.
There is still time for the Bucks to make other moves. This open roster spot has not been officially been used on Rollins, so perhaps this flexibility has uses to other ends. That being said, the most likely result is simply retaining Rollins.
