Rapper, renowned hype man, and hip-hop icon Flavor Flav made all sorts of headlines on Sunday after being hired by the Milwaukee Bucks to sing the national anthem ahead of their showdown against the Atlanta Hawks.
While some fans liked the 64-year-old’s unique rendition of The Star Spangled Banner, the greater majority of supporters started clowning Flav for his version of America’s anthem.
Flavor Flav Speaks Out on Performance for Milwaukee Bucks
Before anything else, here’s Flav’s unforgettable performance form Sunday night. You be the judge.
Flavor Flav has now broken his silence following his controversial performance. It is clear that the Public Enemy founding member has no regrets over his much-talked-about rendition:
“It came to me by me talking to the Milwaukee Bucks president Peter Feigin,” Flav said, via Reign Amauro of sportskeeda. “He gave me the opportunity to be able to sing the national anthem at the Bucks game and I took advantage of the opportunity it’s some that I always wanted to do. He granted me the opportunity to do it and I jumped on it and knocked it out the box.
“When I sang that national anthem, I was singing it for them because they’re not here to sing it for themselves. I did that in honor of my family and also for a lot of other people’s families, too, that fought for this country.
“… I ain’t gonna lie, I was kind of proud of myself after I did it.”
Nobody enjoyed Flav’s performance more than the rapper himself. As a matter of fact, he wants to do it all over again:
“I wanna do it again, I’m gonna do it again. I can’t say exactly when and where, but I got a couple of people right now that want me to come to their venues and do it,” the rapper said.
What makes all this so amazing is the fact that NBA teams are now reaching out to Flavor Flav to perform in their respective stadiums — at least according to the hip-hop legend. If this is true, then we probably haven’t seen the last of Flav singing The Star Spangled Banner on an NBA court.
