The Milwaukee Bucks did not have a second round pick of their own in the 2022 NBA Draft. The team was scrapped of that pick as a punishment for tampering in the infamous Bogdan Bogdanovic near-trade in 2020. However, as Shams Chariana of The Athletic Tweeted, the Bucks traded for the 58th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft from the Indiana Pacers. They used that pick to select 6’4″ point guard Hugo Besson.

Who Is Hugo Besson?
Hugo Besson is just 21 years old, but has been playing professional basketball since 2018. With the French club Elan Chalon, Besson enjoyed a great deal of success that led him to be a top-rated NBA prospect.
In 2019, as a member of the Elan Chalon Under 21 team, Hugo Besson averaged 25.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game. That season he shot an amazing 51/54/70 from the floor.
The next season, Elan Chalon loaned Besson to the Saint Quinten Club, another team in France. That year, he averaged 19.3 points, 4.4, and 2.8 assists per game. Besson shot 48/37/78 from the field. His 19.3 point scoring average led the league.
These two productive seasons led to rumors that Hugo Besson would be drafted by an NBA Team. However, Besson suffered an ankle injury and was unable to workout for any teams. As a result, he withdrew his name from the 2021 NBA Draft.
Hugo Besson Played in New Zealand Last Season
Hugo Besson signed with the New Zealand Breakers of the National Basketball League for the 2021-22 season. In 25 games with the club, Besson averaged 13.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 39/31/80 from the floor.
Even though his name was not thrown around much leading up to the 2022 NBA Draft, there were still many who had an eye on him. In fact, ESPN ranked as the 2022 NBA Draft’s 35th top prospect in August of 2021.
