There’s a new regime for the Milwaukee Bucks and at the forefront is a man named Doc Rivers. The one-time NBA champion coach is a familiar figure among basketball fans and it’s his well-established reputation that was one of the reasons behind Milwaukee’s decision to hire him as their new head coach.
Rivers’ arrival only means that major changes are to be expected within the squad, which is again, something the front office fully expected the moment they signed the 62-year-old to a multi-year contract.
Milwaukee Bucks Coach Doc Rivers Reveals Big Fear
Rivers made his coaching debut for his new team on Monday in what turned out to be a tough loss to the defending champs Denver Nuggets. Rivers’ new schemes were already on full display in his first game in charge and there’s going to be much more of this in the immediate future.
Be that as it may, Rivers himself admitted that he’s taking a very cautious approach in terms of implementing a new system. At this point, the last thing he wants is to overwhelm the players:
“Really, what I’m trying to do is slowly, really slowly put in some of my stuff and simplify some of their stuff – which is our stuff now,” he said, via Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “One thing you don’t want to do, and we’re so fearful of doing it, is paralyzing their brain and now they’re thinking. So it’s just going to take awhile.”
That’s all well and good but at the same time, there’s no denying that there’s a sense of urgency for Rivers here. He now has just 35 games remaining in the regular season with some massive expectations resting on his shoulders.
Coach Doc knows exactly what he’s doing, though, and at this point, the team, the players, and of course, the fans, will need to give him their full trust.
