It’s been over a year since the Milwaukee Bucks pulled off a shocking trade that saw them land superstar point guard Damian Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers. Prior to the trade, the Miami Heat seemed to be a favorite landing spot for the future Hall of Fame guard.
During a recent podcast appearance, Lillard looked back on that summer when he got traded to the Bucks, sharing his feelings about getting sent to Milwaukee amid the noise that suggested he was going to the Heat instead (h/t Sports Rush).
Dame was recently on the ‘Get Got’ podcast with Marshawn Lynch when he expressed his feelings about the complicated departure from Portland. “I’m in a great situation, but when I had my mind thinking I was going, you know, one place and then I ended up going somewhere else, it changed that experience for me,” Lillard commented on his trade.
To refresh, Lillard was traded to the Bucks via a three-team deal that also involved the Phoenix Suns. The Bucks got Lillard, while the Blazers received Jrue Holiday, a first-round pick in 2028, a first-rounder in 2030, Deandre Ayton, and Toumari Camara. Meanwhile, the Suns got Grayson Allen, Jusuf Nurkic, Nassir Little, and Keon Johnson.
Damian Lillard’s first season with the Milwaukee Bucks
In his first season with the Bucks, Lillard averaged 24.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 7.0 assists while shooting just 42.4 percent from the field and 35.4 percent from behind the arc.
Despite having Lillard added to the roster, the Bucks won nine games fewer than their win total in the 2022-23 season and also struck out of the first round of the 2024 NBA playoffs.
