It has now been almost a month since news broke that the Milwaukee Bucks had successfully agreed on a blockbuster deal with the Portland Trail Blazers for Damian Lillard. It came as a shock for most folks considering how Milwaukee pretty much came out of nowhere to hijack the deal from the Miami Heat.
For his part, Lillard already knew that the Bucks were in the mix after his move to Miami fell through. Nevertheless, there’s still no denying that he was still taken aback once the news was official.
Damian Lillard’s Initial Reaction to Milwaukee Bucks Trade
In a recent interview, Dame revealed his initial thoughts as soon as he heard that he was moving to Milwaukee. His departure from the Portland Trail Blazers had been a long time coming, but still, the seven-time All-Star could not help but be sentimental the moment he realized that it was time to go:
“My agent called me he said, ‘They traded you to Milwaukee.’ My first thought was like everything I was leaving behind,” Lillard stated.
Even though it was his wish to leave, this barely made things easier for Lillard to leave the team and the city that he had called home for the past 11 years.
Naturally, the thought of playing with Giannis Antetokounmpo was also one of the first things that came to mind:
“This is happening for a reason,” he continued. “My cousin was like, ‘You about to play with Giannis.'”
Damian Lillard’s Mission
Now that all the hype surrounding that massive trade has died down (somewhat), it’s time for Lillard and the Bucks to focus their attention on what’s ahead. Milwaukee brought in Dame for a reason, and the 32-year-old is well aware of the lofty expectations there are on him now that he’s switched sides.
Lillard is not shying away from it one bit:
“I’m excited. This is where I’m supposed to be right here. It’s time to win,” Lillard said.
“This is where I’m supposed to be right here. It’s time to win.”
