Since the opening of the 2026 recruiting period, the Wisconsin football staff has had their eye on a two-sport star.

Daylen Sharper, a three-star 2026 wide receiver, is an accomplished football and basketball recruit with plenty of offers under his belt. Sharper burst onto the scene last season and earned the majority of his offers, but has since found success on the basketball court. During a recent interview with Wisconsin Sports Heroics, Sharper revealed his interest in Wisconsin and his interest in playing both sports at the same time.

Ahead of his second year of high school football, three-star 2026 wide receiver Daylen Sharper earned a scholarship from the Wisconsin football program. Sharper, an Arizona native, has been a talented receiver that displays a number of different moves on the field to find himself open. The young receiver currently holds ten scholarship offers from schools such as Arizona, Arizona State, and Iowa State.

Sharper stands in at nearly 6-feet-4-inches and packs quite the burst of speed into his lengthy frame. Whether he needs to go up for the play, or get past his man to make it, Sharper will find a way to execute what needs to be done on offense.

As excellent of a receiver as Sharper has been, the athlete is also just as great on the basketball court. This summer, Sharper has earned multiple basketball scholarships and states, “I would say I am trying to see what opportunities both of these sports can give me.” When asked about which sport he would rather play or if he would consider playing both, Sharper responded, “As of right now I am enjoying playing both and seeing which one I want to fulfill in the future.”

For Sharper, one of the biggest reasons why he has made it to the point he is at is due to who he has had in his corner. Sharper, who is an Arizona native, has kept a close relationship with legendary NFL wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

When asked about his relationship with Fitzgerald, Sharper stated, “He’s like a father figure to me, he always holds me accountable and always helps me be the best person, and athlete.”

While Fitzgerald has helped Sharper reach this point, a lot of the development is also due to the commitment and dedication the receiver has shown. Sharper revealed he consistently spends extra time training and focuses on small details of his game that need to improve.

Can Sharper Star on Both the Basketball Court and Football Field For Wisconsin?

Being a star in two sports is something that is incredibly difficult at any level, but the collegiate level especially has proven to be trying. Other successful athletes in the past have considered playing basketball and football, like Wisconsin basketball commitment Daniel Freitag or Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs. While both players considered playing both sports, neither of them actually ended up on both rosters at the same time.

For Daylen Sharper, the idea of playing both sports at the same time is something very real, but whether or not it will actually happen is a different story. Currently, Sharper does not have any offers for both sports from power conferences. Minnesota has contacted Sharper for basketball, but not football, and the Wisconsin football staff is the only staff in Madison that has spoken to Sharper thus far.
