Most recently, the Milwaukee Brewers swept the defending champion Texas Rangers with a 6-3, 3-1, and 6-5 victory. Now, the Brewers have started a three-game series with the Chicago Cubs. Milwaukee has a chance to put the Cubs’ second foot in the grave if they win the series this weekend. Both teams scored during the fourth inning in this matchup, however, the Brewers scored four runs in that half-inning which ultimately led to a 4-2 win.
Milwaukee is 49-33. They lead in the NL Central division by six and a half games. For Chicago, the loss has them at 38-45. The Cubs are last in the NL Central, trailing the Brewers by 11 and a half games. Chicago’s season is looking worse for wear these past few weeks, their season could change dramatically if they don’t pick up a few wins.
Milwaukee Brewers Comfortable 4-2 Win Over the Cubs

During the top of the fourth inning, designated hitter Seiya Suzuki blasted a solo home run to left field to give the Cubs the first run of the ball game. Three batters later, shortstop Dansby Swanson hit an RBI single to left field to increase Chicago’s lead. A half inning later, with two outs and the bases loaded, Brewers right fielder Jackson Chourio smashed a grand slam to left field. Chourio became the youngest player to hit a grand slam since Jose Reyes on June 15th, 2003.
Brewers Escape Jam and Earn the Win

At the top of the seventh inning, Brewers reliever Jared Koenig escaped a two-out bases-loaded jam when pinch hitter Patrick Wisdom flew out to center field. In the bottom half of the seventh Cubs reliever Jorge Lopez escaped a bases-loaded jam when Brewers second baseman Brice Turang grounded out to second. Neither team was able to produce any more runs in this matchup, leaving Milwaukee with a 4-2 victory.
Top Performers from the Brewers 4-2 Win

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Colin Rea earned his seventh win of the season. as he pitched five and one third innings allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out eight batters. Jackson Chourio had the only multi-hit game for the Brewers. He went two for three with four RBIs in the win.
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jameson Taillon pitched six innings allowing three runs on four hits, and a walk while striking out five. Both teams only recorded five hits a piece, however, Chicago’s offense could not come through to overcome the Brewers lead. Seiya Suzuki went one for four with and RBI, while Dansby Swanson went one for three with an RBI in the loss.
