It must have been tough for the Milwaukee Bucks players to lose their coach in the middle of the season. However, it’s time to move on.
As much as he did during his brief time as the team’s head coach, Adrian Griffin is now out of the picture. Coming in to take his place is former NBA champion coach Doc Rivers, who is clearly held in high regard by his new players.
Milwaukee Bucks Vet Brook Lopez Reacts to Doc Rivers’ Arrival
While he may no longer be the big star he once was, there’s no denying that Brook Lopez remains a crucial member of the Bucks. He’s also one of the veteran leaders on the squad, which means that he has a voice and a presence in the locker room.
For his part, Lopez has nothing but good things to say about Milwaukee’s new head coach as the 7-foot-1 center expressed how much he’s looking forward to Rivers’ regime with the Bucks:
“I played against Doc a ton in my career. I’m excited to have him here,” Lopez said, via Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “He’s been in the NBA, played in the NBA for a very long time. So, it’ll be good to have in this locker room, kind of an outside perspective to what’s been going on this year on the court with the team. We get to use his outside (point of view) and all his wisdom he has. It’s going to be very beneficial for us.”
For Lopez, it isn’t just Rivers’ experience that is going to be crucial for the Bucks. According to the former All-Star big man, he also puts a lot of value in the fact that Rivers has been on the outside looking in. The Bucks have had their fair share of struggles this season, especially on the defensive end, which is why Lopez is hoping Rivers’ fresh perspective is what’s going to help resolve their issues.
It won’t happen overnight, but if there’s anyone who could come in and fix whatever needs fixing for Milwaukee, it has to be Doc Rivers.
