At this point, it would probably be safe to say that the Milwaukee Bucks have had a tumultuous past 48 hours or so. The firing of Adrian Griffin as head coach on Tuesday sent shockwaves throughout the entire team.
It was also business as usual for the Bucks barely 24 hours later as they hosted the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Fiserv Forum in a rematch of last week’s 135-95 drubbing at the hands of the Cavs.
Milwaukee flexed their tenacity on Wednesday night, though, securing a much-needed 126-116 victory over Donovan Mitchell and Co. to mark their 31st win of the season.
Milwaukee Bucks Vet Bobby Portis Sends Important Message
As usual, though, Bucks vet Bobby Portis has highlighted the silver lining in all this. The 29-year-old sent a strong message about his team’s current standing:
“If you look at our team, man, we’re second in the East with a top-five record in the league but we don’t feel like we’re playing our best ball,” Portis said, via Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “We feel like there are other levels we can get to. That’s the thing about being a championship team, man, we don’t really settle for just mediocrity or settle for, you know, winning a game in January. It’s all about the bigger picture and what we’re trying to do and what we’re trying to build and achieve again and that’s playing in June.”
Not only is this a subtle warning for the rest of the NBA about what the Bucks aim to achieve this season, but it should also serve as a reminder for the squad about where they currently are at the moment as well as where they want to be.
Milwaukee is now turning a page as Griffin leaves and Doc Rivers takes over and it goes without saying that now will be a pivotal period for this squad.
