Placing 12th in offense efficiency is sort of bad if your team got the Top 2 scoring duo. That’s many analysts are pointing out to the Milwaukee Bucks.
Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard combine for 56.5 points per game, the most for any duo in the league this season.
As team, they put up 113.6 points per 100 possessions.
Should being 12th in offense efficiency be a cause of concern for head coach Doc Rivers?
The one-time champion coach thinks it is not something to worry about. In fact, he believes the numbers don’t tell the whole story.
“Our offense is better than (12th), I can tell you that. So, if you want to go by numbers, yeah, we’re (12th). That’s because we don’t shoot as many shots as other teams. We don’t get as many attempts. And we never will, we’re just not a fast team, so there’s a limit,” he said in an interview with The Athletic.
What Rivers said is the same with what both Giannis and Dame have said from before.
They expressed confidence before that their line-up can compete against anyone. However, they need to be more focused, be more motivated to be able to take advantage of that squad strength.
Doc Rivers trusts offense but warns against fooling around
The Bucks are on a four-game winning streak. They took care of the business against a hurting Philadelphia 76ers and beat the Toronto Raptors 48 hours before.
While the scoreline suggests the Bucks were in their element, what happened before the final buzzer will make fans take a second look.
Those were the games that they were supposed to win. However, as pointed out by Rivers, they can get disconnected.
Take for example the game against the 76ers which Rivers said was an ugly win.
Against the Raptors, he thought his team messed around to give Toronto the chance to get back in the game.
That’s something we’ll watch I didn’t particularly love how we played offense in the second half it’s hard to say that when you; even it’s hard to tell a player you shot 52% and you’re not happy. I’m not disappointed, I just think we’re better, we can play even better.
