The Milwaukee Brewers are in position to be buyers at the 2024 trade deadline. They are rumored to be looking for “all pitching” and have already made a trade in which they gave up former top 30 prospect Gregory Barrios in exchange for Aaron Civale. With more deals on the horizon here we take a look at three prospects that GM Matt Arnold should not consider trading no matter the circumstances.
Milwaukee Brewers untouchable prospect #1: RHP Jacob Misiorowski.
This should come as no surprise. Jacob Misiorowski is the organization’s second ranked prospect and is one of the best pitching prospects in all of baseball. The 22 year is currently hitting his stride in the minor leagues as his walk numbers have significantly decreased and he recently had his longest career outing of 6.1 innings pitched that also consisted of 10 strike outs. With all the injuries Milwaukee has had this season there is a real possibility that he sees playing time at the big league level post trade deadline.
Milwaukee Brewers untouchable prospect #2: SS Cooper Pratt
18 year old Cooper Pratt has made a massive leap in prospect ranking leader boards this year as he is currently the Brewers fourth ranked prospect and MLB Pipeline recently placed him inside their top 100. The 2023 sixth round pick, who only fell that far due to other teams fear of not being able to pry him away from a college commitment, is slashing .300/.398/.390 this year. Milwaukee loves versatile defenders (current big league infield consists of three shortstops) and the 6’4″ Pratt fits their mold perfectly because outside of shortstop he has played second base and looks at third base could be in his future as well.
Milwaukee Brewers untouchable prospect #3: RHP Craig Yoho
The Brewers took a flier on Craig Yoho in the eighth round last year, but they knew that his ceiling was incredibly high. This year we are seeing what he is capable of as the 24 year old former Indiana Hoosier is striking out 47.7% of batters faced through 34.2 innings. He has a 70 grade changeup, 60 grade slider, and 50 grade fastball. All the tools he has spells dominant big league reliever and Milwaukee should take him out of any trade conversations.
Milwaukee has lots of other talented prospects as well. Catcher Jeferson Quero is their #1 overall prospect and the Brewers don’t have any other catchers in their top 30 prospect rankings. Quero out for the season after undergoing shoulder surgery and the likelihood of him being traded this summer is very low.
Other players who just missed making the untouchable list include international signees Luis Lara and Yophery Rodriguez. 2023 draft picks Brock Wilken and Mike Boeve were also not included, but it would take a significant package in order for the Brewers to trade any of these players.
The 2024 MLB trade deadline this year is July 30. Trades and rumors should start heating up even more post All-Star break.
