Earlier this off-season, the Milwaukee Brewers reunited with veteran outfielder/first baseman Mark Canha. He joined the organization on a minor league deal following the news of Blake Perkins fracturing his shin.
The expectation at that time was that Canha would be added to the 40-man roster at some point and be used primarily as a first baseman/designated hitter. Manager Pat Murphy even switched jersey numbers in preparation for Canha returning to the big league squad.
Surprisingly, Canha will not be joining the Brewers out of camp as he has reportedly been traded to the Kansas City Royals. This marks the second time that he has been traded by the Brewers throughout his career.
Mark Canha has been traded by the Milwaukee Brewers to the Kansas City Royals

According to Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman, Canha is being dealt to the Royals in exchange for either cash or a player to be named later. The Brewers decision to trade Canha likely came from the fact that they were not going to add him to their 40-man roster, as originally thought. Rather than release him, they decided to trade him and get something in return.
The Brewers have traded Mark Canha twice now throughout his career

Following the 2023 season, the Brewers traded Canha to the Detroit Tigers. They received pitcher Blake Holub in return. When Milwaukee traded Canha a few years ago, they did so right before a deadline to either accept or reject an $11.5 million option that included a $2.0 million buyout if rejected.
This time around, the Brewers decision to trade Canha is surprising. All signs were pointing towards him being a lock for the Opening Day roster. That may still hold true, but it would come in a Royals uniform instead.
