The Milwaukee Brewers and all other 29 teams will participate in a four day Spring Breakout showcase this March. Major League Baseball made this announcement earlier in the week. The purpose of this event is for top prospects from each organization to gain more exposure by squaring off against one another.
In order to participate each team will assemble a roster filled with 20-25 of their best prospects. Each team will play at least one seven-inning exhibition game. The plan is for this to be an annual event.
2024 Spring Breakout Showcase: Milwaukee Brewers vs Kansas City Royals.
This event will span four days from March 14-17. Milwaukee is scheduled to square off against Kansas City on the final day. They will be one of two match ups that Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for 3:05 p.m. CT.
Pending any trades the Royals top prospects currently consist of eighth overall pick in last year’s draft Blake Mitchell, third basemen Cayden Wallace, and pitchers Ben Kudrna + Frank Mozzicato. Other prospects whose names may be recognizable include Gavin Cross and Blake Wolters.
Milwaukee’s current top prospect is Jackson Chourio. He just signed a historic contract extension, so it’s unclear if he will be a part of the Spring Breakout Showcase or not. Other prospects who could make the roster include Jeferson Quero, Tyler Black, Jacob Misiorowski, and Carlos Rodriguez.
Overall this seems like a great idea from Major League Baseball. Between odd game times, split squads, and well known players not playing much during spring training it is often difficult for even the die hard baseball fans to tune into every March game. Adding in an event revolving around top prospects should get lots of attention.
