The Milwaukee Brewers were linked to former New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson earlier today by Ken Rosenthal. Following this news MLB Insider for Fansided Robert Murray went live on The MLB Insiders podcast and revealed one shocking fact about this connection that actually dates back a few years ago.

MLB Insider Robert Murray reveals one shocking truth regarding the Milwaukee Brewers rumors to former New York Yankees player Josh Donaldson.
According to Robert Murray the Brewers had interest in Josh Donaldson back in 2021. He does not specify when, but that year Milwaukee won their division, Minnesota finished last in the American League Central with a 73-89 record, and Eduardo Escobar was the Brewers trade deadline addition at third base. It is possible that Milwaukee checked in on his asking price that summer in which he ultimately went on to have a 26 home run, 72 RBI, and 127 OPS+ season.
Following the 2021 season Josh Donaldson was traded alongside Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Ben Rortvedt to the New York Yankees for Gary Sanchez and Gio Urshela. In New York he has struggled and injuries have limited him to just 33 games this year. His release from the Yankees allows him to sign with a team and be post-season eligible if a contract is in place before September 1.
One big concern, outside of health and performance, is his presence in the club house. Despite the Brewers prior reported interest in Josh Donaldson Robert Murray said, “I think the Brewers can go in a better direction.” He believes that Matt Arnold and company place a high value on club house impact and that may significantly hinder Donaldson’s chances of becoming a Brewer in 2023.
