During the first two games of a four-game series, the Milwaukee Brewers have lost 8-7 and won 4-3 against the Colorado Rockies. In the midst of the third matchup in the series, the Brewers were able to punish the Rockies and walk away with a 3-0 shutout victory. Milwaukee now extends their lead in the NL Central to seven games over the second-place St. Louis Cardinals with a 52-35 record. Colorado is 29-57, and the worst team in the National League.
Milwaukee has three more series to play before the all-star break. After this series concludes on the 4th of July, we’ll see the Brewers travel to Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers in a three-game series that will begin Friday night. The Colorado Rockies will remain home and welcome the Kansas City Royals for another three-game series.
Milwaukee Brewers Punish Rockies in 3-0 Victory
Three batters into the game, Milwaukee’s left fielder and once again an all-star for the third time in his career, Christian Yelich smashed a solo shot to right field off Rockies starter Dakota Hudson. Yelich has a .696 on-base percentage against Hudson, this is only second to Yankees Juan Soto who has a .750 on-base percentage against Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman. An inning later, Brewers first baseman Jake Bauers hit an RBI line-drive single to right field.
Willy Adames Ejected, Brewers Shuts Down the Rockies
Just three innings later with the bases loaded, Brewers center fielder Garrett Mitchell took an RBI walk to make it a 3-0 game. Two batters before Mitchell, Brewers shortstop Willy Adames was ejected on a third-strike call after barking at home plate umpire Mark Ripperger. At the bottom of the eighth inning with runners on first and second, Christian Yelich was able to make a great running catch into the left field wall for the out. Colorado would record eight hits, however, they couldn’t bring anything home and fell in this one 3-0.
Top Performers in the Brewers 3-0 Win
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Colin Rea pitched seven innings, allowing just six hits while striking out four in this big-time win. Christian Yelich went two for three with an RBI, while both Brice Turang and William Contreras went three for five. Colorado Rockies starter Dakota Hudson pitched four and two third innings allowing three runs on seven hits, and three walks while striking out four batters. Hudson now has a 2-12 record on the season. Brendan Rodgers, Brenton Doyle, and Jake Cave all recorded multiple hits in the loss.
