The Milwaukee Brewers started a four-game series with the Colorado Rockies on Monday. During the first game, Milwaukee took an atrocious 8-7 loss. Last night at the top of the ninth, the Brewers were down 3-2, but scored two runs and eventually took a 4-3 win on the road. This ties the series up at one game a piece.
Milwaukee gained their 51st win of the season and has a six-game lead over the second-place St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. For the Rockies, they received their 55th loss of the season and are 23 games back from the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.
Milwaukee Brewers Mischievous 4-3 Win over the Rockies
At the top of the second inning, Brewers right fielder Sal Frelick lined an RBI single to right field to give Milwaukee the first run of the ball game. In the bottom half of the second, Rockies center fielder Brenton Doyle smashed his third home run in the past two games. Two batters later, Rockies first baseman Michael Toglia hit a sacrifice fly to give Colorado the early lead. It wouldn’t be until the top of the seventh inning when the game was tied up again. Brewers second baseman Brice Turang popped an RBI double to right field.
Brewers Win Due to Two Runs Score at the Top of the 9th
Colorado took the lead once again at the bottom of the eighth inning when Brenton Doyle ripped an RBI double to left-center field. With one out and the bases loaded at the top of the ninth, Willy Adames hit the game-tying sacrifice fly. Two batters later, pinch-hitting first baseman Rhys Hoskins was hit by a pitch by Rockies reliever Justin Lawrence. This allowed the Brewers to take a 4-3 lead and eventual win.
Top Performers in the Brewers 4-3 Win
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel made his second start for the team after being traded from the Seattle Mariners. In five and one-third innings pitched, Keuchel allowed two runs on four hits, and two walks while striking out five. Brewers designated hitter Christian Yelich went three for five while Willy Adames went two for three with an RBI.
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Ryan Feltner pitched five innings allowing one run on six hits and two walks while striking out three batters. Colorado’s designated hitter Elias Diaz and center fielder Brenton Doyle were the only two in the Rockies lineup to record a multi-hit game. Diaz went two for five while Doyle went two for three in the loss.
