During the first two games of a four-game series, the Milwaukee Brewers took a 7-6 and 9-5 loss to the San Diego Padres. Milwaukee looked to even the series and win the last two games. However, the Padres had other plans, to take and hold down that second-place spot in the NL West division. San Diego led 6-0 after seven innings of action, the Brewers rallied at the top of the ninth to score four runs, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Padres took a 6-4 win.
Milwaukee Brewers Pitiful 6-4 Loss to the Padres
The scoring during this game started at the bottom of the third inning when Padres center fielder Jackson Merrill smashed a three-run home run to straightaway center field. In the following inning, Padres shortstop Ha-Seong Kim ripped a solo shot to left field to give San Diego a 4-0 lead. Two innings later, Padres catcher Kyle Higashioka demolished a two-run home run to left field. San Diego now led 6-0, and it seemed like this game was all but over.
Brewers Four Run Ninth Inning
During the top of the ninth inning with outs and the bases loaded, Brewers second baseman Brice Turang popped a grand slam to left field to cut the Padres deficit to 6-4. In the next at-bat, Brewers catcher William Contreras struck out by Padres reliever Robert Suárez to end the ball game. With the loss, Milwaukee now has a 44-33 record. They have a five-game lead in the NL Central division. For San Diego, they are now 41-40, second in the NL West by a game, and they trail the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers by seven and a half games.
Top Performers from the Brewers 6-4 Loss
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Carlos Rodríguez pitched four innings. He allowed four runs on six hits while striking out two batters in the loss. Brice Turang went three for four with four RBIs. First baseman Tyler Black and third baseman Joey Ortiz also each had a multi-hit game going two for four. This Brewers team must pull some wins together before the Cardinals get to close for comfort within the division.
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Randy Vasquez pitched five innings. He allowed just five hits and three walks while striking out three batters in the team’s win. Jackson Merrill went three for three with three RBIs while Ha-Seong Kim went two for three with an RBI. Even though each team put up ten hits a piece, San Diego recorded more clutch opportunities and was able to pull away with their fourth straight win.
